FAQs
Why therapy?
There are many different takes on the reasons for or against therapy and the process that is inherent. To put it simply, therapy gives you an opportunity. While that may seem small or not the answer you may be looking for, what it is is a powerful, beautiful and freeing exploration. If we take a look at the word legacy, this idea may come into better focus. Everyone, including you is going to leave some form of a legacy. What legacy do you want for yourself, because it is based on your actions, behaviors, and emotions? It is the totality of you. To bring it full circle, therapy is an opportunity to create the legacy that you may envision, that possibly have been searching for, or you want to leave the current legacy behind.
What will we be doing in sessions and how long will it take?
This is a difficult question to give an exact answer to because I have not gotten to know you personally yet. In a broader sense, it takes more time than some may expect. If we assume the current neurological data is correct and it takes around 45 days to create a new habit or action that gives us a starting point. First we have to identify the new, healthier and more positive habit before implementation and possible barriers to success. This means that initially we start with 9-12 sessions and go from there.
In sessions, we will have a conversation. That simple. All that is asked to come have a genuine conversation, meaning the conversation is honest, open and empathic.
Do you take insurance?
I am in the process of becoming paneled with certain insurance companies. At this time I am working on a cash pay basis with a sliding scale. Because I am not currently working directly with the insurance companies, what I can provide is what is deemed a Super Bill. This is a receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for possible full or partial reimbursement. Your insurance company does not guarantee any reimbursement so it would be prudent to contact your provider. Some questions to gain answers to determine possible reimbursement can be: What is my deductible and has it been met? How much does my plan cover for an out-of-network provider? Do I have mental health benefits? Do I have an HSA that can be used? Does my plan cover a certain number of sessions per year? What licensure requirements need to be met for reimbursement (check to ensure this matches your therapists licensure)?
What does the cost look like?
Rates start at $90 per session. As previously mentioned, I do work on a sliding scale which means if there is an issue with being able to meet this, we can discuss possible amendments to this price.
What are your hours and how long are sessions?
My hours are often flexible. As much as I would like to be able to have a completely open schedule that fits everyone’s needs, life also happens for me. The best way to view availability will be to review the client portal where you can view my schedule and availability. Sessions will typically last 55 minutes.
What is your cancellation policy?
As I mentioned in the previous question, I get it, life happens and things come up. With that being said, I also see these appointments as a priority. I will ask that you give 24 hours notice if something occurs, so that I have the ability to fill that appointment. If 24 hours is not given, there will be a fee associated with the missed appointment.
What is the client portal?
I use an emr service that allows for scheduling appointments, record keeping and secure communication with clients. A few things you can do through the portal includes: -schedule or change appointments. - review documents shared with you - add appointments to your calendar.
